1. Scope of services
Which platforms, how many posts a month, which formats, and is ad management included? Vague scope turns into "that was not in the package" later.
2. Account and data ownership
Social accounts, ad accounts, pixels and analytics data should always be in your name. The agency should only be an authorised user.
3. Content and copyright
Who owns the photos, videos and copy produced? Can you keep using them after the contract ends?
4. Approval process
Is content sent for your approval before publishing, and how many days do you have to approve?
5. Ad spend
Is ad spend included in the fee or separate? Who pays the platforms, and does the agency take a commission?
6. Reporting
Report frequency and content should be written down, ideally enquiries, cost per customer and sales rather than likes.
7. Payment and invoicing
In our model the first month is paid upfront, then invoiced monthly with a report. Payment dates and late terms should be clear.
8. Term and termination
Is there a minimum term? How much notice is needed, and how are accounts handed over at the end?
9. Confidentiality and personal data
If the agency accesses your customer data, its obligations as a data processor must be defined under the data protection law that applies to you.
10. Contact person
Who is your project lead, and through which channel and at what times can you reach them?
Frequently asked questions
Who should own the social media accounts?
Always you. The agency should be added as an authorised user, never as the owner.
How long should a social media contract be?
Month to month with a clear notice period is fair. Plan for at least three months to see results.
